Jack Ma is the Founder and former CEO of the Alibaba Group. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for The Nature Conservancy’s China Program. In 1999 Jack Ma launched Alibaba.com as an e-commerce site that facilitated business deals between companies in China and the rest of the world. The Alibaba Group currently is comprised of several of China’s most popular websites including the business to business marketplace Alibaba.com, the online auction site Taobao.com, Yahoo! China, online payment service provider Alipay, and Alisoft business software. Prior to founding the Alibaba Group, in 1995 Ma founded the China Pages. He then accepted an invitation from China’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation to head the information department of the China International Electronic Commerce Center. Jack Ma has received several awards including selection by the World Economic Forum as a “Young Global Leader” in 2005, being named by Business Week as “Businessperson of the Year” in 2007, inclusion into Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in 2009 and 2014, selection by Forbes Asia as one of “Asia’s Heroes of Philanthropy” in 2010, and many other awards of distinction.
